When the Lewes, DE area grew dramatically over a ten year period, it needed additional hospital capacity. Beebe Medical Center accommodated by building a three story 57,000 sq. ft. addition to their existing hospital, and chose Delcard Associates to play the vital role of providing the complete plumbing, HVAC and medical gas systems.
The Delcard team provided the new medical air and vacuum systems for the entire hospital, 244 plumbing fixtures, a new 600 ton chiller and cooling tower, 13 pumps and four air handling units delivering 84,000 cubic feet per minute. Their sheet metal department fabricated and installed 92,000 lbs. of sheet metal duct, 10 exhaust fans, 166 air terminal boxes and 472 grilles and diffusers. The main source of heat is hot water that is converted from the existing hospital's steam plant through the new steam stations that Delcard's piping facility fabricated.
Specific challenges to Delcard were to work around the hospital's active emergency room and maintain all other services, while making the necessary tie-ins to the new addition. The Delcard team went above and beyond, all involved were pleased with the results of the effort and the project was completed on budget.
