The Brandywine School District was planning the largest single school renovation ever performed in the state of Delaware at their PS DuPont Elementary School. They needed a partner to renovate the HVAC systems.
They selected Delcard Associates a Comfort Systems USA company. The CSUSA team:
Meticulously coordinated with the others teams on the project
Installed five energy recovery units to improve energy efficiency
Completed their work ahead of schedule
As the largest single school renovation ever performed in the State of Delaware, the PS DuPont Retrofit project was handled in a unique and productive manner. The owner gave Delcard an empty school to perform their work for the duration of the project.
Delcard's work involved a complete HVAC renovation to the 205,000 sq. ft.
structure, and included the demolition of the existing mechanical infrastructure.
Their new work included the purchase and installation of a new four pipe system, with
five energy recovery units, eight air handling units, 65 unit ventilators, 57 fan coil units,
31 cabinet unit heaters, over 1,000 feet of fin-tube radiation, 20 pumps, 30 exhaust fans,
675 air devices, over 140,000 pounds of sheet metal ductwork and almost seven miles of
new piping.
The Georgian edifice, with a massive colonnaded facade, sits on a 22 acre parcel in the northeast section of Wilmington, and was commissioned in 1935. This project was completed in June of 2008, and with more than 150 tradesmen working in the building each day, was completed ahead of schedule and restored to its former glory.
