When Iowa Renewable Energy needed a mechanical systems partner for their biodiesel production plant in Washington, IA, they chose ACI Mechanical, a Comfort Systems USA company. The CSUSA team:
Used pre-fabricated assemblies that accelerated the installation schedule
Kept pace with a very tight eight month construction schedule
Managed several piping design changes in the process
The Iowa Renewable Energy (IRE) Biodiesel Facility in Washington, IA turned to ACI Mechanical as a mechanical systems installation partner for their fifth plant in Iowa that produces biodiesel from soy oil and other natural oils. The production facility is set on a 486,000 sq. ft. building site. ACI received a $5,900,000 contract to complete the plumbing, HVAC and mechanical piping systems within eight months.
To meet the aggressive schedule, ACI began pre-fabricating pipe spools and assemblies in their production shop. This allowed them to work ahead and complete portions of the work prior to site mobilization. A major portion of this project was the exterior piping.
The ACI crew worked through the winter and completed more than 50,000 man hours on the project. This IRE project was the fifth biodiesel plant to be completed in Iowa and, being part of a constantly evolving industry, several design changes in the process piping had to be made throughout the course of the project. The team maintained constant diligence and accountability and managed and coordinated each change to meet the project demands.
